Qadiriyya is a Sufi order whose name is associated with Abdul Qadir Gilani, a teacher in Baghdad in the 6th century AH. Its spread was largely through disciples, monasteries, and local networks, and in later periods led to branches with different modes of worship and organization.
Dhikr, moral education, and the master-disciple bond are important in many Qadiri communities, but practices vary from region to region. Qadiriyya is not synonymous with a specific jurisprudential school, and its followers in different communities may be affiliated with different schools of jurisprudence.
