Junang is a Buddhist tradition in Tibet with an institutional history dating back to the late 13th and 14th centuries. Dolpopa Shirab Gyaltsen was one of its important masters, and his interpretation of the doctrine of "Shentung" and the Kalachakra time-transition influenced Junang's intellectual identity.
The continuity of this tradition in different regions of Tibet has taken complex paths and has been re-established in modern times. Some Tibetan institutions consider it the fifth major living school, while other lists highlight four main schools; this entry does not obscure the difference in classification.
