Judo Sho is a Japanese school of Pure Land Buddhism, formulated in the 12th century by Honen. Honen emphasized the chanting of the name of Amitabha as an accessible practice for liberation, and this view permeated the social and religious context of medieval Japan.
Judo Sho is not the same as Judo Shinsho, although both are inspired by the texts and traditions of the Pure Land. Contemporary Judo Sho organizations present their teachings, rituals, and history in different formats, and the degree of focus on local prayer and rituals can vary.
